Our road to restoration

1958 Austin Healey (Frogeye) Sprite Mk1

A full ground-up restoration: chemically dipped to a bare shell, rebuilt panel by panel, and finished in Cherry Red with both soft-top and hard-top hoods.

1958 Austin Healey (Frogeye) Sprite Mk1
The story

This Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite was subjected to a full ground-up restoration. The car was initially stripped down to the bare shell, which was sent away to be chemically dipped, a process that removes all existing rust, body sealants and paint.

Once returned, work commenced to rebuild the body shell using new panels where necessary. Any metal damaged by rust in the remaining panels was cut out locally, and new sections were fabricated and welded into place.

All other components of the car were disassembled, inspected, restored and then rebuilt with new parts as required. The car was finished in Cherry Red with both soft-top and hard-top hoods. Apart from the chemical dipping, engine machining and rechroming, every element of this restoration was completed in-house at Mortons Classic Cars.
